Nursing Home and
Long-Term Care

The construction of a new Albany County Nursing Home and pursuit of alternatives to nursing home care are perhaps the most pressing issues faced by our county government. We are faced with this occasion of change because of the implementation of state mandated nursing home care policy changes (see the Berger Commission Report).

We must incorporate effective long-term care service techniques and modern comforts in the plans for our new long-term care facility. I will work to ensure that quality long-term care services are provided to the elderly and people in need at the new facility. Our highest priority is to ensure that our relatives and neighbors live in comfort and dignity.

Alternatives to nursing home care, such as at-home care, must also be provided. Given a choice, most people would prefer to maintain an independent lifestyle. As we provide this type of long-term care, which may also result in cost saving, I will work to ensure that such alternatives are viable, satisfy the needs of the elderly, and allay the concerns of family members for the safety and well being of their family members.
